Goldfeder Wants More Cops
With summer season now here, Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder has requested NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton to provide the 100th and 101st Precinct with additional officers to handle the overcrowded and busy beaches during peak season and supply them with the tools necessary to keep our streets safe.
“Our local precincts do an outstanding job with the very limited resources that they are given,” Goldfeder said. “But we must provide our officers the tools they need to protect our families and ensure another successful and safe beach season.”
In his letter to Commissioner Bratton, Goldfeder noted that despite Sandy, Rockaway has seen a large construction boom and influx in population and visitors over the last several years, which puts a heavy demand on the local precinct. With Rockaway’s growing population and increased visitors, we need to ensure public safety remains a top priority, Goldfeder added.
According to the most recent comp stat reports compiled by the NYPD, crime has risen in Rockaway compared to last year. Although Rockaway does receive additional officers during summer months to handle the growing beach crowds, it is simply not enough.
“More police visibility on our streets and beach will keep our community safe and strong,” Goldfeder concluded. “I urge Commissioner Bratton to provide the 100th and 101st Precincts with additional officers immediately to protect our families and visitors.”
