Feel Better: Gahles Speaks At RAA
“The Power of Self Care: A Common Sense Guide to YOUR Wellness Solution” is an interactive talk with Dr. Gahles that will take place on Monday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. at RAA’s T-7 Gallery at Fort Tilden.
All are invited to ask questions and be part of the discussion.
Addressing both physical well-being and post-Sandy stress, Gahles describes her integrative health care approach as one which “blends the best of conventional, holistic and alternative medicines and provides comprehensive, integrative healthcare for people of all ages.”
Gahles has been a healthcare practitioner in Rockaway for 28 years. “I know the people here. I know what they have gone through.”
Especially after Hurricane Sandy, she says, “we know what PTSD is, but we may not know what it looks like.”
It might show itself in increased heart stress, inability to sleep, fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome and other ills, Gahles says.
It may even take the form of increased anxiety in kids, and often be mistaken for Attention Deficit Disorder.
“Kids remember,” she says. “They remember climbing on counter tops to get away from the rising waves.”
When it comes to health, Gahles encourages people to be “invested in yourself!”
“We all have things like illnesses, medical issues that come up.”
“I show people how to create a ‘healthcare portfolio’ and put aside investments like you would for a car or a house.”
Dr. Gahles is a published author, has been a guest speaker at the TED conference at the University of Ahmherst, and writes the Health and Harmony column for The Wave.
The RAA is proud to present Dr. Gahles’ talk as part of its commitment to the Rockaway community, its recovery and resurgence.
There will be RAA updates given at the meeting and attendees are encouraged to also bring artwork to share.
