Residency Madness

Dear Editor,

At a recent Belle Harbor property owners association meeting, there were rumors flying that the new editor of The Wave, Rockaway's hometown paper, does not reside in Rockaway or Broad Channel!

I sincerely hope these rumors are false! If it is true, I will be extremely disappointed with The Wave's ownership!

Is it not bad enough that Rockaway's NYC Parks administrator does not live in Rockaway? Is it not bad enough that Rockaway's District Manager does not live in Rockaway? Is it not bad enough that Rockaway does not have its own NYC Council district in Rockaway or Broad Channel, making it very difficult to have a councilman who resides in the Rockaway community?

These are all very nice people, but please tell me how out of a population of 130,000 people in Rockaway and Broad Channel, we cannot find qualified people to do these jobs?

If you DO NOT LIVE HERE and SLEEP HERE you cannot have the same pulse of this community as one who does!

Shouldn't the editor of a "Home Town" newspaper live in the home town where that paper is sold? I think so !

If the rumors are true, I sincerely hope that the owners of The Wave will reconsider their decision to have Rockaway lose the only real voice left in Rockaway!

They should either hire someone with TRUE roots in the Rockaways or buy a condo for the new Wave editor.

JOHN CORI

Like if you were born there,

Like if you were born there, and when you go back to visit the place everybody is from Brooklyn claiming to have roots there ? Like that ?
