On April 30, Janelle McManus, a 2000 graduate of Bishop Kearney High School, was inducted into the Girls Catholic High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

During her four year career, McManus, a resident of Belle Harbor, helped to raise Bishop Kearney’s basketball team to the highest level, competing on the state and national level.

McManus was a four year varsity player and captain in her sophomore, junior and senior years, during which she was named All City Player of the Year, New York Newsday; MSG All Tri-State Team, 3 years; All City New York Newsday, 4 years; All City Daily News, 3 years and All City New York Post, 4 years. She still holds the scoring record in the San Diego Surf and Slam Tournament with 83 points in three games, helping Kearney win the championship in the Gold Division.

She led Kearney to three State Catholic High School Championships and a Federation title, the first in the school’s history. After Kearney, Mc- Manus earned a scholarship to Boston College, where she played for two years. She went on to complete her degree at Fairfield University to be closer to home.
