Battle Rock Debut A Success
The May 3 event took place at Beach Channel High School.
The air felt electric as locals arrived in anticipation of a different form of entertainment, promising a fun and exciting show. Muay Thai fans traveled in from Boston, Connecticut, all over New York City and New Jersey in support of the fighters and the sport. It was easy to detect the excitement as competitors, whether firsttimers or seasoned fighters, waited to christen this new venue with their assembled talent and skills.
The Thai Boxing Association (TBA) sanctioned the event and judged the 12 bouts. The final matches kept spectators on the edge of their seats in a fast-paced flurry of action.
Fighter Kit Fung faced Jess Cavagnaro and carried the bout to victory after three rounds of non-stop action. The kicks were consistent and solid from both corners, neither fighter looking taxed at the end of the three rounds. With the split-decision victory going in the direction of Fung, it appears certain a rematch is destined for the future.
The main event featured two topranked fighters from NYC, who were battling for the first-ever TBA North East Regional Championship belt.
Joey Hernandez and Greg Rowe squared off for a challenging bout. As the fight progressed, Rowe showcased his impressive speed and Hernandez demonstrated his unyielding power. The battle never appeared to be one-sided, with each fighter delivering the best of what he carried in his toolbox.
The fans erupted in cheers amidst speculations of “Fight of the Year” — it could have been anyone’s victory. It was Rowe who walked away with the victory, becoming the TBA Northeast Regional Light Middleweight champion.
Additional victors of the evening were Joel DeJesus, James Peay, Jeff Tamaraz, Ethan Geffen, Puttipong Phusaranttanakul, Camille Midas, and Neil Mustafa in their respective fights.
BattleRock 2 is already in the works, and CROM Martial Training has plans to be announcing it soon!
