Congratulations to everyone at The Wave for their well-deserved recognition from the New York Press Association. The new Wave has proven to be one of the nicest silver linings to emerge after Sandy: the reporting has been fair, relevant, and objective yet clearly focused on local issues and local needs, and the coverage throughout has managed to strike a balance between hearty calls to civic action and shameless optimism for the future of our little peninsula. Perhaps even more valuable, the editorial pages have emerged as a calm voice of reason in a sea of rumors and rants run amok on social media. The little newspaper that was born in the aftermath of a historic fire has been reborn in the aftermath of a historic storm, and proven that in this age of instant communication, there's still room in the media landscape for a good local weekly. Well done, Wave!
