A large crowd turned out on Thursday, April 3, to say ‘thank you’ to Mayor Bill de Blasio for extending the Rockaway ferry.

With the ferry landing as a backdrop, the Rockaway Committee to Save the Ferry hosted the rally at Beach Channel Drive and Beach 108th Street starting at 6 p.m.

Among the many speakers were Queens Borough President Melinda Katz as well as other elected officials and community representatives.

The Rockaway ferry went into service after the A train was wrecked by Hurricane Sandy. In January it was extended for several additional months while the city reviews proposals for what will likely be a five year contract.
