PS/MS 183Q Celebrates Women

The PS/MS 183Q Title I Parent Advisory Council took some time to celebrate women for Women’s History Month. Mothers, aunts, grandmothers and other women were celebrated with gifts for their labor as parents on Friday, March 21. Guest speakers Assemblywoman Michele Titus, Lynette Barfield, the constituent’s liaison for Senator Sanders, and Sharon Anderson, the director of Far Rockaway Library, were also honored for their dedication to the community.

Some of the highlights included a performance by the girl scouts and speeches from Barfield and Titus who were encouraging, interactive and showed their gratitude for the many girls and women at the event. Jessica Luima, assistant to Councilman Donovan Richards, came as a guest and delivered an inspirational message about the women in her life, including her mother.

Principal Jessica Romero, Parent Association Treasurer Della Jackson, Parent Association President Lisa Johnson Cooper and Parent Coordinator Jacqueline Stillwell were presented with unexpected gifts. Assemblywomen Titus also presented Stillwell with a “Woman of Distinction” award.

The guests were provided with dinner and dessert from the Title I board and every woman in attendance received a gift bag.
