Beaches Must Be Open

Dear Editor:

Spring and the summer will soon be upon us. I am sure everyone, especially after the frigid cold weather and all the snow we had this year, will be looking forward to the warm weather and returning to our beautiful beaches. I think we really need to enjoy the summer season this year because we need to refresh our minds and spirits.

I expect our representatives are involved and will make every effort - making sure that the beaches will be open and accessible, and that the hills of sand dumped last year just before the Labor Day holiday do not prevent us from using the beach. What dummy made that decision?

I ask Senator Charles Schumer, Congressman Gregory Meeks, Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder and Councilman Eric Ulrich to make sure our beaches are back for the people of Rockaway and the rest of NYC, to have them for their enjoyment and recreation this summer. We need them to fight for us and to help us get back to some semblance of life to the way it was before Sandy.

I empathize with everyone who did not receive the help they needed from government and the insurance companies. So many people and families still have not gotten back to normal. My own son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter have lived in Brooklyn since Sandy and their house will be torn down in two weeks and rebuilt, hopefully if no more complications occur.

I just think the beaches re-opening and the people enjoying them will give everyone a sense that things are getting better.
