Prom Fundraiser To Benefit Local Students

Prom season is coming soon and to help local high school juniors and seniors cover their prom expenses, Make- MyMotherProud is hosting a fundraiser prom for adults.

MakeMyMotherProud, along with Gaining Our Dignity and Project Window are hosting the 2nd annual Adult Prom Cinderella Ball Fundraiser. This black tie affair will be held from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. on April 19th at Occasions Banquet and Catering Hall at 127-08 Merrick Boulevard. The $50 per person admission covers a buffet, open bar, dessert and entertainment. The event is an opportunity for adults who missed their prom to get a taste of prom for themselves while raising money for underprivileged junior and senior students in Far Rockaway so they can attend their own proms this year and so they can apply for colleges or pay senior dues. During last year’s event, more than $2,000 was raised and more than 100 youth got assistance. The women who attended the fundraiser donated their dress to senior students and the money raised by the men was used to help pay for tuxedo rentals. The other funds raised went towards senior trips and college application fees.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at mmmpadultpromfundraiser. eventbrite.com or email mmmproud@yahoo.com or call Lakia Echols at 646-373-963 for more information about purchasing tickets or making donations. Monetary donations can also be sent to MakeMyMotherProud; P.O. Box 900385; Far Rockaway, NY 11691. Tickets must be purchased by April 1st.

The mission of MakeMyMotherProud is to provide life and educational motivation and guidance for youth in the Queens area.

Rockaway’s Free Flea Market is also preparing to help local students with their prom needs by collecting gently used dresses. Donations can be arranged by contacting Marissa Bernowitz at 347-913-5664 or rockawayfreefleamarket@gmail.com.
