Joseph Perez has been painting seascapes and landscapes for more than 40 years. He teaches painting at the prestigious Salmagundi Club, where he is an artist-member. An avid sailor and wooden boat builder, he is an official Coast Guard Artist with COGAP, and member of the American Society of Marine Artists. Perez considers his greatest influences in marine art to be Winslow Homer, Emile Gruppe and A.T. Bricher.
Perez has had a life-long romance with Rockaway, first being taken here as a boy by his parents and “falling in love with the waves and the jetties … and the sea air.” As a former student of his I can tell you his teaching is inspired by a passionate love of his subjects, a controlled and disciplined eye for critique and an ability to pass his talents on to others.
