Lemons are a staple item in almost every household. Although most commonly used in teas, juices, and dressings, this mouth-puckering fruit serves dozens of everyday purposes. 1. Refresh the Refrigerator: Soak a sponge in lemon juice and let it sit inside of the refrigerator for up to 7 hours. 2. Improve Mental Health: Squeeze fresh lemon juice in a glass, mix with water and drink for a boost in mood. Consuming lemons can help relax the mind, fight depression and reduce stress. It’s also used as a natural remedy to refresh and rejuvenate during times of fatigue. 3. Disinfect Your Cutting Boards: It’s easy for porous, wood surfaces to hold onto strong smells. Get rid of odors and sanitize your cutting board by rubbing with fresh lemon juice. 4. Control Hypertension: The potassium in lemon helps control blood pressure and its vitamin B content can lower your chances of heart failure. 5. Whiten Nails: Add juice from 1/2 lemon to 1 cup of warm water. Soak hands in mixture for 5 minutes. Finish by pushing back cuticles and rubbing a lemon peel back and forth against each nail. 6. Natural Fruit and Veggie Wash: Clean your fresh produce with lemon juice and say goodbye to dirt and pesticides. 7. Avoid Kidney Stones: Consume lemon water regularly to increase your production of urinary citrate, a chemical in the urine that prevents the formation of crystals, which can gather and form kidney stones. 8. Lighten Your Hair: For blonde highlights, combine one-quarter cup lemon juice and three-quarters cup water. Rinse hair with mixture, comb through, and sit in the sun until dry. Repeat daily for up to 7 days to achieve maximum results. 9. Keep Insects Out: Squirt lemon juice by doors, along windowsills, and inside holes and cracks where ants tend to circulate. Also, spread small pieces of lemon peel around the outdoor entrance. Finally, combine the juice and peel of four lemons with one-half gallon of water and use it to clean the floors. 10. Calm Respiratory Problems: Drinking lemon water can help reduce phlegm, encouraging proper breathing, helping those who suffer from asthma. 11. Freshen Your Garbage: If your garbage pail begins to stink, line the bottom of an empty bag with lemon and orange remains. Repeat every couple of weeks for a fresh smell that lasts. 12. Keep Healthy Skin: Regularly drinking lemon water helps lower the production of free radicals responsible for skin damage, spots and wrinkles. 13. Keep Cut Apples and Guacamole from Turning Brown: Squeeze a good amount of lemon juice over apple slices and prepared guacamole to maintain color. 14. Reduce Swelling: Since lemon is a diuretic, consuming it helps lower inflammation by flushing out toxins and bacteria. It is recommended for those suffering from arthritis. 15. Revive Lettuce: To crisp your lettuce, add the juice from one-half lemon to a bowl of cold water. Submerge lettuce and put bowl in the refrigerator for one hour. Dry completely before use.
