Peninsula Preparatory Academy Gets An “A”
Peninsula Preparatory Academy is an “A” rated school in the Rockaways. This recognition affirms the hard work and dedication of the parents and staff in persevering through seemingly insurmountable odds. Since our existence, we have been striving for academic excellence, while preparing every child to become independent lifelong learners. In this process, our school community challenges our students to think critically while modeling how to explain, apply, analyze, synthesize and evaluate any given information. The teachers facilitate the students’ critical thinking through center-based activities, in which the students work collaboratively with their peers. Our collaboration with our parents has been the glue that holds us together as a family. Peninsula Preparatory Academy offers workshops for parents to better equip them with their understanding of our curriculum. Through the dedication of our Parent-Teacher Organization, monthly meetings are held in which the teachers provide information on the essential components of the curriculum. In addition, helpful tips are given to parents as support to help their children. Through our learning leaders program, parents are offered the opportunity to learn about the shifts toward the Common Core State Standards to support their understanding. Our school community holds workshops that are geared toward the NYS exams informing the parents of the expectations and how they can support their children at home.
We are extremely excited that PPA will continue to be a viable option for the Rockaway community. “PPA is committed to providing every scholar with a high-quality education,” said Principal Ruth Peets-Butcher. “While more work remains to be done, we are excited in the direction our school is moving and for the dedication of our staff, who strive daily to help our scholars get on a path for success.”
As the school prepares for the coming school year, we will host two community Open House sessions on February 27, 2014 and March 13, 2014, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. This will give prospective scholars and their families an opportunity to see the school, meet members of our team and complete an application for the 2014-2015 school year. ... our school community challenges our students to think critically while modeling how to explain, apply, analyze, synthesize and evaluate any given information.
