Jen’s Fitness Forum
You couldn’t tell from looking out the window, but springtime is right around the corner and soon you won’t have that bulky winter coat to hide under. Forget the excuse that it’s too cold outside to exercise and reach your goals by making the decision to start getting in shape for summer today with indoor cycling classes.
Indoor cycling, or spin, is a great exercise option for many people, regardless of fitness level. It’s both extremely aerobic and low-impact, which makes it safe for those who suffer from arthritis. Also, in a spin class you decide how hard to push yourself by controlling the amount of resistance on your wheel and your pedal speed. An avid athlete and a firsttimer can be in the same class and both get exactly the type of workout they’re looking for.
What to expect…
If you’re new, always arrive 15 minutes early so that a certified instructor can get you properly set up on the bike. The trainer will make sure you have the correct seat and handlebar height and explain the different moves, positions, and techniques that will be used throughout the 45- minute to hour-long session.
When the lights dim, you’ll know that class is about to begin. Music, illumination, and encouraging instructional prompts from the trainer guide the group through a versatile full-body workout focused on improving strength and endurance. Classes can be very diverse since each instructor brings his or her own personality and music style. This makes it fun and keeps the workouts exciting.
So what exactly are the benefits?
