Molloy Girls Take 2nd Championship
On Sunday, February 2nd, the Archbishop Molloy High School girls swim team capped off its second consecutive undefeated season by winning its 2nd consecutive GCHSAA Championship by 279 points over its closest competitor.
The team from Molloy has now compiled 11 straight Brooklyn Queens titles to go along with 6 GCHSAA titles in only 12 years of competition.
The Molloy team set three school records en route to their championship. The 200 medley relay team of Aerin Toskas, Alexandra Rubiano, Nicole Falcao and Annabelle Anich set a new school record of 1:57.26.
Alexandra Rubiano added another record by lowering her own standard in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.40. Rubiano was also awarded the league’s Outstanding Career Swimmer award for four years of excellence.
Molloy’s 3rd school record came in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The team of Rebecca Markunas, Aerin Toskas, Annabelle Anich and Broad Channel native Carolyn Crocker swam a blistering 3:50.4 .
The Archbishop Molloy team is led by swimming director Don Green of Belle Harbor. His coaching staff is comprised of head coach Dennis Wresch, assisted by Keith Green and Dan Quinn all from Belle Harbor.
Coach Green credits the team’s accomplishments to their dedication and desire over the course of their season.
