Meeks: Yell At Yourself

Dear Editor:

Congressman Meeks issued a press release last week bashing Republican lawmakers for essentially not reversing their vote on the Biggert-Waters Act by refusing to vote to delay the implementation of the B-W Act itself. While I applaud his efforts in reversing this onerous law, he and others touting how they are fighting for us really need to take a hard look in the mirror!

He and every NY Congressman in office in 2012 voted YES in favor of passing this law. While his release calls for fellow lawmakers to “do the right thing”, pass the “essential relief” and to help those “devastated” by the B-W Act; he never once admits that he, in fact, was instrumental in putting this horrid law into effect. Maybe those refusing to back down did something he and the other 28 NYS Congressman failed to do before voting YES… they read the bill, understood the bill, analyzed and thought about the impact of their actions.

The last thing he should be doing is turning this into a bi-partisan political football for cheap political gains. You broke it -now go fix it and along the way own up to it and STOP telling us how great you are for fighting for us…after all, you put us in this situation!
