Explorers Use Basketball As Recruitment Tool

Time to warm up. Photos by Miriam Rosenberg Time to warm up. Photos by Miriam Rosenberg Local youth were given an introduction to the NYPD Explorer program through basketball last week. On January 30th Lakia Echols and the 101st Precinct Explorers hosted a basketball clinic at MS 53.

“The purpose of the clinic was to be a recruiting net for the Youth Explorers,” Echols said “Then while they have everyone’s attention they could promote their mission.”

Leading the clinic was founder and president of Leading Youth 2 Empowerment’s William McFarland. With him were Kavon Lytch and Shiron Brown. McFarland and Lytch play pro-ball overseas.

The NYPD Explorer Program is a community service, career-oriented program designed to educate young men and women, ages 14-20, about law enforcement.
