Dear Editor, The following letter was sent to Mayor de Blasio.
Dear Mayor de Blasio,
On behalf of the entire Rockaway community, we, the members of the Committee to Save the Rockaway Ferry, would like to express our gratitude to you for extending the Rockaway ferry service. The residents of the Rockaways look forward to the continuation of ferry service and hope to see the ferry become permanent on our peninsula.
At the same time, we also acknowledge and appreciate the efforts that our elected officials, including Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Congressman Gregory Meeks, Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., Assemblyman Phillip Goldfeder, Councilman Eric Ulrich, and Councilman Donovan Richards, made toward realizing our goal to extend ferry service.
The extension of ferry service has raised community morale tremendously, especially after Hurricane Sandy took so much away from us. It also demonstrates that our voice is being heard after so many years of being overlooked by former city government officials. We are optimistic that together, with you and our elected officials, we will make tremendous strides in the growth and development of the Rockaways in the years ahead.
As a token of our appreciation, we would like to invite you to the Rockaways to thank you in person at a Press Conference, to be held in the near future at the Ferry Terminal on Beach 108th Street/Beach Channel Drive. We will schedule a date for the Press Conference as soon as the weather improves and will contact your office with more details.
THE COMMITTEE TO SAVE THE FERRY
