Are You Still Waiting For Your Lights To Go On???

Since LIPA failed to do its proper job during superstorm Sandy, another company (PSEG) took over to manage electricity for the Rockaways. Some homes and businesses have been without power for months on end.

Case in mind is Donald Ritter, owner of the Breezy Point Surf Shop. He lost everything during Sandy---all his inventory, the shop itself and everything in it. He temporally set up in the Life Guard Shack, a few feet away, this summer. Donald managed to clean up his original shop to move back but can do nothing more until his electric power goes on….. This new company is holding it up until he makes an appearance in their Hicksville office and signs some papers. Can’t they fax them to him and he can sign them and fax them back to expedite matters? Evidently not! Do you have the same complaint? This is a disgrace! Donald would like to open his shop for spring business and if he does not have power he cannot do so. In the meantime Donald, hang in there!

While Donald may not have the greatest luck with his Breezy Point Surf Shop business, he can count himself lucky to have recently survived the BIG “C” scare. Doctors discovered a cancerous growth in the corner of his eye. Thank God they successfully removed it and now he is cancer free. And he and his wife Casey have many years to enjoy their new son, Carlton. Hopefully, he will be able regain his business in time for spring.

Kennedy’s on the Bay Restaurant is still under construction and it looks like they have added a second floor to view the bay. We are so anxious to have them back. Everyone I talk to misses them so much. They can’t wait till they reopen. It is not only a beautiful spot to dine, but the food is so good and served in abundance. Hope Gerard Casey, owner of Kennedy’s, doesn’t have a power problem.

Out and about in the City was the National Boat Show at the Javit’s Center with more cutting edge technology, state of the art GPS devices, HD quality cameras, etc.

Other technology trends: Telecare to control and monitor insulin levels; portable power chargers for your smart phone; Sky Saver, a back pack that allows you to step out of a window in an emergency and automatically lowers the user to safety in a high rise building, made by Besadno in Brooklyn; cars that drive themselves. The future may bring more and safer cars on the road.

Saks Fifth Ave had a Super Bowl tailgate party with Hall of Famers, broadcasters and celebrities to benefit the Big Daddy Foundation. The Big Daddy Golf Classic is coming up June 22-23 this year.

Oh! Yes and Broadway was bouncing with crowds of fun loving people. I wanted to go down the toboggan run but my cameraman is getting on in years and did not want to climb the stairs. What a disappointment! Oh, well maybe I will get a younger cameraman next year.

At the Explorers Club, where Frances Abbraccimento’s children still cover catering, I met John Hanson Thomas Main, president of Grinnell College in Iowa who spoke about the institution.

I had a taste of Taiwan at the new “Delicatessen” Restaurant which is not a “Deli” at all, 54 Prince Street, NYC.

Travel: Why not travel to Taiwan? It is situated in the Pacific with beautiful beaches, wildlife and sea life, national parks, forests mountain peaks, night life and plenty of fun things to do in the water. Air included with hotels packages for three nights for a little as $1283 all transfers, air, taxes etc. and AWAY WE GO!!!
