Equal Or Not?

Dear Editor:

Some important food for thought. Why is there always a question in any important application now that asks,, "Are you of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin?" That was the first question in our last US census. It is the fifth question on the new US census, American Community Survey.

Any of you who have dealt with colleges and scholarships have seen this question prior to the next question, which asks if you are White, Black or African American, American Indian, etc. I asked our elected officials three years ago and was told it was federally mandated.

When I asked why, I was told someone would get back, never got back to me. Now I know this might sound like it is not important, but it is to me because we all live in America. We are all Americans whether white, black, green, yellow, I really don't care. But we all know that there is some benefit going to people of Hispanic descent or they would not be asking that question. If anyone is as stupid as I and have gotten an answer on this subject please let me know. I have no prejudice with people of Hispanic descent, actually have some very good friends. I am just fed up with this when we should all be considered Americans. Interested for any feedback.
