Ferry Fight Is On

With the future of the ferry still up in the air and just two weeks to go before the ferry is scheduled to end, the fight is on.

By January 31st, the ferry may be gone forever as it is only guaranteed until that date. New Mayor Bill de Blasio, the New York City Economic Development Corp. and SeaStreak have not made any mention of the ferry service being extended or made permanent as of yet. To put the pressure on, the Committee to Save the Rockaway Ferry will be holding a press conference to demand the continuation of the ferry service at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21st at Pier 11 in Manhattan.

“The Rockaway peninsula always needed ferry transportation,” the committee said in an email. “It took a ‘Superstorm’ for this form of transportation to become a reality. Ridership is good and excellent in spring and summer. For the City of New York to even consider ending the ferry service is unacceptable.”
