Sink Or Swim; 84th Street A Mess

At least a dozen families had déjà vu of Sandy as massive flooding took over Beach 84th Street due to a water main break on January 3rd

According to a letter sent to The Wave from Brett Scudder, Beach 84th Street is a common site for flooding and massive sinkholes, which often create problems for the families that live there. The Department of Environmental Protection is said to have been to the site on numerous occasions. The DEP reported to the site on the bayside after a water main break was reported on Friday.

The DEP says 41 residences were affected. The agency worked to repair the broken main on Friday and residents were advised not to drink the tap water. They were told to boil water until at least Sunday, after test results of the water main were released.

The ladies of the Rockaway Free Flea Market sent out a request on Facebook, asking for supplies to help 12 families that were impacted. They collected water, shelf stable long term food, blankets, thermals and thick socks, which were donated to the families.
