The organization MakeMyMother- Proud sponsored the painting of the Bayswater Park mural after receiving a $1,000 grant. The organization was notified by the Parks Department on January 6th that the mural had been graffiti tagged.

“It is very sad, because we truly need to teach our youth to care for their community,” said Lakia Kia Echols, the founder of MakeMyMotherProud. She added she was sad, not mad. “It just makes me work harder on helping to provide things for our youth.”

Local artist Geoff Rawling took the art of various young people who won an art contest related to the project, and combined them in one design. The mural was painted by Rawling and young volunteers in July, 2012.

“This summer, the mural will be fixed.”
