Rockaway Gets A Sea Wall

It’s a sea wall but it’s made of sand. Joe Hartigan and longtime beach advocates John Cori and Eddie Pastore demonstrate just how much erosion has occurred this winter. That dangerous cliff in the Beach 90’s is about 10 feet high in some spots. The Army Corps calls this erosion “scarping” and says that the next round of beach replenishment due to begin in January should smooth things out. Oh, and “groins can definitely help with this kind of erosion,” adds the Corps. (More photos inside.) It’s a sea wall but it’s made of sand.
