North Pole Workers Seek Help

‘Tis the season of giving and a few “elves” around the area are trying to make the holiday season bright for local kids, however they need a helping hand.

The Secret Sandy Claus Project and the Rockaway’s Free Flea Market Ladies have teamed up to bring holiday cheer to children affected by Hurricane Sandy. A network of over 150 volunteers stretching across every Sandy affected area, including Rockaway, Broad Channel, Howard Beach, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Long Island and New Jersey, have set up local North Pole divisions, overseen by Head Elves. Each team includes several elves and Santas who are making personal toy deliveries to more than 3,000 children.

The teams are looking for extra helpers and there are many ways to help out. Volunteers can help run a toy drive at their local school or business, pick up or deliver toys, dress up and help deliver toys, or wrap and label toys. Donations can also be made to the Secret Sandy Claus Project to help fund the cost of personal toy deliveries being made by Santa.

New, packaged and unwrapped toys, movie tickets or gift cards can be dropped off or mailed to the Queens North Pole, C/O Marissa Bernowitz, 111-10 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, Rockaway Park, NY 11694. Additional drop-off points can be found at www.SecretSandyClausProject.org. The site will be updated as more locations become available. Parents can also sign up their children on the site to receive a gift.
