Lights, Music Brighten RBB

By Miriam Rosenberg

Roasting marshmallows on an open fire, warm drinks, mini candy canes, and the music of the season made for joyous tree lighting on Rockaway Beach Boulevard near Beach 94th Street by the Peninsula Library on Saturday evening, December 7th. A menorah from the West End Temple and a soon- to- be-lit Christmas tree stood side by side as the sun set and approximately 100 people joined the Rockaway Beach Civic Association and various other sponsors for a ceremony in a spot where one year ago Sandy hit extremely hard.

There was singing by the Church on the Rock Musical Ensemble and Choir and greetings from local electives.

Serena and Samindra Paul, and Monika Luchowska spent two days working on a mural. The beach scene is highlighted by clouds shaped as a heart, whale and other fish. “We used our art to bring joy to our neighborhood,” said Samindra Paul.
