Grace Dolan, Megan McGinn and Devyn Stansky, all freshmen from Breezy Point, were among eight St. Saviour High School students who received Michael Gordon Scholarship certificates last week. St. Saviour High School is located in Park Slope.

The Michael Gordon Scholarship funds come from the Michael Gordon Foundation. Gordon was born in Hungary in 1923. He immigrated to the United States in 1951, and after working for a number of years as a designer and pattern maker he purchased Koret, Inc., a maker of handbags. Over the next 30 years he designed and created handbags for Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy and others. Grateful for the opportunities he was given by the U.S., Gordon founded the Michael Gordon Foundation, which was to be funded after his death. The mission of the foundation is to assist those under the age of 18 in areas of education, health and welfare. Gordon died in 1998, but his legacy lives on through his foundation.
