Peggy Dwyer, head cook for the New York State Department of Mental Hygiene, died on December 3rd.
Born in County Cavan, Ireland, she became a Rockaway resident 44 years ago, after moving from Yonkers.
She was a faithful parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Church, a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, the St. Rose of Lima Choir, the Perpetual Adoration Society and St. Brendan’s League.
Dwyer is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; sister, Lena McManus; nephew, Brian McManus and grandson, Edward Dwyer. She leaves behind her son, Michael Kevin Dwyer; nieces and nephews, John McManus (Regina), Kathleen Keane, Hugh McManus, Thomas McManus and Phillip McManus. She is also survived by five grandchildren, 16 nieces and nephews and many grandnieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held on December 5th, at St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home in Rockaway Beach.
