Hundreds turned out on Wednesday, December 4th, for the special Holiday Street and Tree Lighting Celebration organized by the Beach 116th Street Partnership with the participation of various local businesses, individuals, community groups and others.

Children and adults alike were treated to cookies, hot chocolate and other goodies as they enjoyed performances by the PS/MS 114 Belle Harbor School Glee Club, Ms. Elaine’s School of Dance, the St. Francis de Sales Adult and Children’s Choir, St. Camillus Elementary School and a stunning solo by Anna Claire Delvecchio.

Rob Walsh, NYC Commissioner of Small Business Services, acted as master of ceremonies, introducing local business leaders and elected officials. In some special moments, he called up several children from the crowd to ask what they would like for Christmas.

The large crowd counted down together and cheered at the moment the huge tree on the center median in front of the firehouse was lit.

Excited children crowded in close as Santa himself made his appearance at the celebration. Taking a large red draped seat, he spent time with each child, taking pictures and noting their Christmas wishes.

Speaking afterwards, organizers and some eventgoers noted this was a good sign that Rockaway was coming back bigger and better than ever.
