One year after Sandy hit, some homeowners in Breezy Point were very thankful this past Thanksgiving Day. They were overwhelmed with deep, deep gratitude.

Elizabeth and Michael Carlson, whose home was destroyed by fire, were presented with a brand new home by the Arverne developers. They did a beautiful job and will be building many more homes in Breezy. Michael Dubb of Beechwood Organization, only charged the family bare minimum material costs without a profit to them. Since insurance covered fire not flood, the Carlsons could manage to have a brand new home again. But what happened to the $648 billion the Feds handed over for aid and to repair homes in Breezy? WHERE IS IT?? Families haven’t gotten it.

Another thing, 55 families have received permission to rebuild while 65 are still on file with no OK. What is holding this up? The home of Ann Heslin of Irving Walk, blew into the house next door. She, among many others, still needs help. There is a big, long list of homes in need of repair. Hopefully this spring we will see new homes along with flowers popping up throughout the area.

They are working on Kennedy’s on the Bay Restaurant. Wouldn’t it be great to have that fine restaurant back in business? Don’t you miss it? And Donald Ritter is hoping to restore electricity to his original Surf Shop and reopen around December 6th in time for Xmas shopping. He ordered new Breezy sweatshirts with a new design ... so save your time and tolls by shopping locally. And, good luck to you, Donald.
