Safety Tips From RSCP

To keep residents safe, the Rockaway Safety Citizens Patrol is passing along the following:

Useful Safety Tips:

Cars:

Always keep your doors locked when parking your vehicles, even for a quick errand.

 Remove all valuables from vehicles.

If you hear any suspicious sound late at night, or if you are coming home late and see or hear something suspicious, do not hesitate to call the RCSP 24-Hour Hotline. Patrols are out 24/6.

If you are the victim of a car break-in, we urge you to immediately file a police report. Feel free to call the 24- Hour RCSP Hotline should you need assistance in this process.

On many occasions, car breakin thieves attempted to sell stolen items back to the owners or in the neighborhood. Should this occur, minimize your interaction with the thief and call the RCSP Hotline IMEDIATELY. The RCSP has trained volunteers that can handle the matter with the NYPD.

Please avoid warming up the cars and leaving the keys inside in the morning. Many instances of car theft occurred in such incidents.

Homes:

Lock ALL windows and doors prior to leaving your homes.
Remove any tool, ladder, chair or other item that may be used in the commission of such crimes.
If you hear anything suspicious inside or outside your home, feel free to call
the 24 hour hotline at any time.
