Early on Saturday, November 16th, a man pointing a loaded gun was shot and injured by police.

At 12:38 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of an assault inside 40-20 Beach Channel Drive, the Beach 41st Street Houses, on the 3rd floor.

Four officers from the 101st Precinct responded, including a sergeant, assigned to the 101st Precinct Housing Unit.

When they entered the lobby, they heard screaming coming from the stairwell of the building.

As they entered the stairwell, the officers observed a 25-year old male with a firearm.

When officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, he immediately fled up the staircase. The suspect then pointed his loaded gun at the officers.

One officer fired his weapon and struck him in the torso.

EMS transported the suspect to Jamaica Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

A 9mm, Highpoint model C firearm was recovered at the scene.

Two officers were removed to area hospitals for minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
