From Calm/Storm/Rebirth, Jack Neafsey’s “Three Amigos,” a black and white photograph framing three feline buddies on a pre-storm back porch. Closing on Sunday, November 24th, viewers have one weekend left to explore this highly moving show. “Gifted,” is RAA’s annual holiday exhibit, showcasing RAA members only. A juried exhibition open to all media, “Gifted” is on view December 7th, 2013-January 19th, 2014. Opening reception is December 9th, which will also be our general meeting of that month and our holiday party.

Elections for the RAA board of directors and officers: All paid members who paid by the September general meeting are eligible to vote. All of those members with working email addresses will receive an electronic ballot. Those with no email address will be mailed a paper ballot. Anyone with questions should call Regina at the office.

Members should have received statements from the candidates running for office before November 18th, and the email ballots by November 18th. If not, contact the RAA office immediately.

There is just one weekend left to see “Calm/Storm/Rebuild,” on view through November 24 in sTudio 7 Gallery, Fort Tilden. An excellent diverse, moving show, it features more than 100 works by 40 artists.

From the delicious innocence of Jack Neafsey’s “Three Amigos,” a black and white photograph framing three feline buddies on a pre-storm back porch, to the exquisitely expressed and profoundly realized clay sculpture by Penelope Atheras, “Deep Sorrow,” to the extraordinary color photographs of the storm’s aftermath made even more extraordinary and dramatically heightened by Michael Deutsch’s talent, “Calm/Storm/Rebuild” expresses our journey through a year of defeat, destruction and the slow journey toward the light of renewal.

RAA thanks author Thomas O’Callaghan for his presentation, “A Twelve-Year Effort To Move My First Novel, ‘The Bone Thief,’ From Conception To Publication,” at the November general meeting. Informative and humorous, O’- Callaghan, a Belle Harbor resident, tracked his long, arduous, doggedly determined, surprising and eventually successful journey. He was encouraging and provided some helpful tips to others who might be about to embark on the same voyage.
