The Fishing Report
Tom’s Wave Service Station, Bait and Tackle on Beach Channel Drive in Rockaway Park reports that plenty of black fish are biting and many are of legal length at 16”. Tom said that the black fish are here and that the weekend was busy “It’s all about blackfish now” said Tom.
Big Ron’s bait and tackle on Cross Bay Boulevard in Howard Beach reports that there are still plenty of bites at the Marine Parkway Bridge, and off of Floyd Bennett Field with the black fish hanging on.
The wind was a factor as well.
A few small boats did have some good luck. Ron said that “about 12 nice sized black fish just taken today (Tuesday, November 12th) were being taken off a boat behind the shop” as he was speaking with me on the phone.
East End and outside report:
Bernie Matzen reports that the striped bass are still at Tobay Beach.
Bernie said that “Diamond Jigs, and anything else that looks like a sand eel should attract the fish”.
He mentioned that the bass were all but gone from Montauk and that the fish are migrating west.
Howard Beach report:
Captain Mike, located next to Big Ron’s Bait and Tackle on Cross Bay Boulevard in Howard Beach, reports that the striped bass fishing is “O.K to GOOD”, and that the last night trip of the season for the boat will be this weekend. So call for reservations if you don’t want to miss out. You can contact Capt. Mike at 917-747-4789.
Captain Mike will still have day trips available every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
What’s really great about Captain Mike’s day trip is that the Captain keep’s a sharp eye out for striped bass during the day trip and for black fish.
If he sees any evidence of striped bass action going on, he switches the whole trip over to a bass fishing trip and it can REALLY be fun if you are in the right spot, at the right time. Mike’s crew knows where the fish are, and they can prove it, too.
On last Tuesday’s trip “Brandon Lacurto” caught a MONSTER black fish that tipped the scales at 14 POUNDS!
