Scholars’ Volleyball: Undefeated
At the end of the girls’ volleyball season last year The Scholars’ Academy said goodbye to five seniors. Coach Kerri Naples knew she had a solid core of players left but she needed current players to step up into larger roles and discover new talent to keep the program as one of the best in New York City’s B Division.
Coach Naples along with assistant coaches Miranda Harding and Kelly Trpic have integrated veteran senior and junior players with young but talented freshman, to accumulate a 12 and 0 record in the Queens B South/East League. The team has shut out all of its competition 2 to 0 in all of their matches.
This undefeated run was highlighted by the team’s last home game, played on Tuesday, October 22nd. During the match the whole Scholars’ family said goodbye to this year’s seniors in an emotional ceremony.
Their tremendous play has earned the Lady Seawolves a fourth seed in the PSAL B Division Playoffs. The team defeated Maxwell High School in the first round 25 to 10 and 25 to 16. At the beginning of the match the team thanked the girls from Maxwell High School for housing Scholars’ Academy during their displacement due to Sandy.
The team will now take on the 20th seed Springfield Gardens High School at Scholars’ Academy on Thursday, November 14th at 5 p.m.
The team is hoping to continue their undefeated season in a quest for a second championship title. This last won during the 2010-2011 season.
