Simon says...

From the Desk of Lew M. Simon, Democratic District Leader, 23rd A.D. Part B

I’d like to thank everyone who showed their support and belief in me. As we write this column on Monday evening we are still planning to go with the Queens County Organization and my lawyer to re-canvass and review affidavit and absentee ballots. It ain’t over until the fat lady sings.

We are back at work at our office at Ocean Promenade Rehab now known as Beacon. I am still Assembly District Leader of the 23rd Assembly District. Dues for the Good Government Regular Democratic Club are in order yearly at $25. We would appreciate it if some of you would become silver members at $125 or gold members at $250.

We expect to invite all of our newly elected city and Queens officials, Mayor, Comptroller, Public Advocate and Queens Borough President to our community meetings. After the first of the year we will bring down all of the new city commissioners so we can be informed and have input into city policy. We expect to play a big part in the new administration and be in the forefront of the rebuilding of our community. We will have our weekly meetings every Thursday, except holidays, at 7:30 p.m. You can send your dues to us at the Good Government Regular Democratic Club, c/o Beacon Rehab 140 Beach 113th Street, Rockaway Park NY 11694.

We are in the process of reorganizing our Board of Directors. Let us know if you are prepared to be active in working for your community and club. All are welcome. We are also committed to keeping the subsidized Rockaway ferry and banging the drum for the reactivation of the Rockaway Beach line. It is time for everyone to get involved with the many changes that will be made.

I had a great time campaigning door to door in Rockaway, Broad Channel, Breezy Point, Howard Beach, Hamilton Beach, Lindenwood, Ozone Park, South Ozone Park, Woodhaven and part of Richmond Hill. I made so many new friends, who are now my family, and put myself on the map when so many naysayers and haters said that I wouldn’t even come close. Our incumbent City Councilman remarked that he kicked my ass. This was another sign of a child in an adult world. There was no ass kicking.

We heard about a couple of dirty tricks played on Election Day. A robocall was sent with a woman’s voice listing the public officials who were supporting me and urging people to vote for me on Election Day (Wednesday). Some voters were told that you were not allowed to split your ballot and if you tried the machine would spit out your ballot.

We played very fairly by the rules. There were several nasty letters on mainland newspapers calling me a liar about my heart surgery and using it as an excuse for canceling participation in a debate. Unfortunately I missed two candidate’s nights. I made all the other events. I am proud of going out to train stations, shopping centers and door to door throughout the district.

We look forward to continuing our hard work, win or lose. Winning would give me a paycheck, losing means it’s all free. I am always proud to be there to help. I’m proud to have had so many Republicans, Conservatives, Independence Party and those not enrolled in a party along with so many Democrats voting for me.

We will always be there to represent all the people all the time. You can reach me at (718) 945-1216 or e-mail lewsimon945@aol.com
