An Intern’s Take
Well, with less than seven weeks left in this year it’s time for some reflection. Words cannot express my feelings as they pertain to the blessings that have been showered in my direction, a healthy son, another year in the land of the living and the countless number of people that have emailed me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I am no angel and every day is a fight and we must decide if we are going to win or lose. Everyone falls down, the question is do you stay down, or do you dust yourself off and start again.
When this year started I was somewhat lost like a ship without a sail. I did not know what my next step in life would be. Enter The Wave and Mr. Kevin Boyle. Writing for this paper has helped me navigate through a difficult period in my life, as a father and husband. It’s my job to protect and provide for my family. Being unemployed for the last few years has definitely put a strain on my relationships at home. The possibilities that have been granted me cannot be measured.
If you have followed my column this year you would know that there are many things that I consider important, God, family, community and culture. This year has helped to put my life back on course. I have been able to start my not-for-profit Five Towns Far Rockaway Arts and Sports Alliance. I have started recording music and, most important, have been a part of the Stop the Violence Movement that is sweeping across the peninsula.
It started with the Stack Bundles Stop the Violence Basketball Tournament. After its second year without any incidents of violence the baton was passed. This year we had the first Stop the Violence Softball Tournament. This past Sunday the first champion was crowned as Team Gateway defeated Team OG 8-6.
As we prepare to celebrate the end of another year let’s take some time to ask ourselves what can we do to make our community a better and a safer place to live.
Stay tuned the year is not over yet I still have a few events lined up that, trust me, you will not want to miss.
As always tell me what you think. What do you have planned for the end of this year? Send your comments and suggestions to email@example.com Keep the faith and read The Wave.
