Sandy may have cancelled the holiday last year, but kids had a great a time at the Halloween Party hosted by Sophisticated Ladies 3 at Johnny’s Classic Quizine in Far Rockaway. Hurricane Sandy blasted through just days before Halloween last year.

So this year Sophisticated Ladies 3 decided that “the young people of Far Rockaway deserved a day dedicated to making them smile and laugh to help them forget about last year,” according to co-founder Angela Carrington.

“We also live in Far Rockaway and endured Sandy's horror. So we hosted a Halloween party just for them,” she said.

Carrington explained, “Sophisticated Ladies 3 is a non-profit organization founded by my business partner Charnise Blackstock and myself to help the women and young people in our Far Rockaway community in any way we can.”

By day Carrington and Blackstock are both licensed area real estate agents

“(We) started Sophisticated Ladies 3 in order to open a battered women’s shelter in Far Rockaway,” Carrington said. “We are hoping to obtain a building in the near future so we can house, and mentor young ladies in need.”

Part of their goal is to raise enough money to make acquiring that building a reality.

About the Halloween party, Carrington commented “We had great supporters for the event. Johnny's Classic Quizine Restaurant allowed us to use their establishment to host the party from 5 to 7 p.m. and the kids loved it.

“DJ Mr. International - AKA Kasiem played live music and they danced and laughed the entire time. Mr. Anthony Smalls and Body of a Goddess Fitness donated candy and juices.”

Earlier in the year “on Mother’s Day, we visited Surf Side Nursing Home in Far Rockaway and gave flowers and poems to all of the female residents and staffs, we are hoping to gain supports so we can hand out gifts to the children in our neighborhoods that are in need.”

“We are hoping for more supporters as we are going to also have a Christmas party for the young people and their families,” she added enthusiastically.
