Kingsborough, Beacon Offer New Courses In Rockaway
Rockaway resident Susan Lavin and Kingsborough Community College Continuing Education Program Coordinator is letting the community know that the college has announced a brand new partnership with the Beacon Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Together they will be offering some select workshops, certificate classes, and other training programs, for the enrichment of Rockaway residents at Beacon, located at 140 Beach 113th Street in Rockaway Park.
They are also seeking suggestions from residents for future classes and training programs.
Some of the classes being offered this Fall are:
-Preparation for Notary Public Examination $75. Offered on Wednesday, November 20th, from 7: - 10 p.m., this one session course prepares one for the Notary Public Examination. It provides an overview of a Notary Public’s tasks and offers guidance in positioning yourself to provide this service on a fee-for-service
-Creating Spaces of Sanctuary, $30, is given on Wednesdays, November 13th and 20th from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
It teaches a holistic approach to stress reduction and wellness.
The program describes Spaces of Sanctuary as zones of safety within one's surroundings and within oneself which, when engaged, counteract stress and contribute to peace and contentment.
Those taking the class will learn how to utilize creative endeavors and purposeful activity, which absorbs body, mind and spirit in order to shift from stressors to a more fulfilled sense of well-being.
-Yin and Yang Balance, $30, is offered on Tuesdays, on November 12th and 19th from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.
Kingsborough and Beacon organizers advise people taking this course to “Get ready to change your life in health group sessions!”
“Is your life too Yin or too Yang,” they ask? “Are you over excited, emotional, or eating without thinking, or are you calm, relaxed and chew very slowly? What could you be eating that may be driving you too Yin or Yang?”
In this session one will discover all about the energy of food and the environment, how to reduce cravings, how to increase energy, alternatives to sugar and protein, and more.
Instructions in light exercises will be given, so attendees are asked to wear loose comfortable clothing and sneakers.
All classes will be held at the Beacon Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Besides these initial offerings Kingsborough and Beacon are seeking suggestions from area residents of the Rockaways, for future classes and other training programs to be offered in the Rockaway/Broad Channel community.
