By Dan Guarino

Police at the 100th Precinct reported that at approximately 1:23 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30th, they responded to a 911 call of a male assaulted inside of 140 Beach 113 Street, the Beacon Nursing Home.

When officers arrived they found a 71-year old male resident who was unconscious and unresponsive and appeared to have suffered blunt trauma to the head. EMS transported the man to St. John’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

As of 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 31st, the NYPD and the Queens District Attorney’s Office declined to officially release the name of the victim pending notification of the family.

District Attorney Richard Brown’s staff did confirm that 66-year old Thomas Yarnavick, also a resident of the Beacon Home, was arrested at the scene.

Yarnavick was charged with 2nd degree Murder and 4th degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

The DA confirmed he was not immediately arraigned, but was instead brought to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation.
