Budding student artists from Scholar’s Academy, St. Francis de Sales, St. Rose of Lima, Channel View High School and the Rockaway Park High School for Environmental Sustainability took to their brushes to give a burst of color to store fronts all along Beach 116th Street.

The Rockaway Rotary sponsored the Fall Harvest Art Contest on Sunday, October 20th. Local artist and chairperson for the event, Linda Rufo, and Rotary President Maureen Walsh were very pleased with the large turnout and the enthusiasm of the kids.

The contest was judged by Rudy Resta, Laurence Oliver and Paul Pluda. Rufo noted it was extremely difficult to pick only three winning teams out of so many creative works.

The First Place winners were Sunehra Subah, Sanjid Mustari and Safkat Chowdhury.

Second Place was awarded to Catherine Barbasiewicz, Joshua Ogogo and Mariah Marshall.

The award for first prize was $500; second $250 and third $125.

The fall and Halloween themed shop windows brightened up the Beach 116th Street business area. The Rotary is looking forward to making the contest an annual event.
