Eye On Rockaway

by Miriam Rosenberg

On Tuesday city residents will vote in a mayoral election that does not include the name Bloomberg on the ballot for the first time in 12 years. It is now time for the city to move in a new direction.

Bill de Blasio is correct when he speaks of a tale of two cities – the haves and have-nots. Rockaway could easily be an example, though not as much as it once was. Most of the east end the have-nots and the west end the haves. Superstorm Sandy changed a lot of that because we all discovered we were in the same boat and had to work together, not against each other. Unfortunately it took a disaster for us to realize that. We must continue on that course. And the rest of the city must do the same.

This columnist endorses Bill de Blasio for Mayor of New York.

This columnist also endorses Scott Stringer for City Comptroller, Donovan Richards for 31st District City Councilmember, Melinda Katz for Queens Borough President and Lew Simon for Councilman from the 32nd District.
