Still Not Home

Dear Editor:

After watching Kevin Boyle's piece (MetroFocus TV) about Rockaway after Sandy, I was surprised he did not mention the plight of many Rockaway residents to get back home. All twenty six families who lost their homes in the Belleshores Condominiums are still waiting for an SBA loan that will fund our reconstruction project. Without it, all work has stopped, due to lack of funds to pay workers.

Unfortunately the condo was underinsured for flood and we are at the mercy of the SBA loan system. The required documentation leaves all of the 26 families uncertain about our future, paying mortgages and rent for homes we do not dwell in and rent for temporary housing.

I have yet to read an article about residents like us struggling after Sandy and did not hear Kevin mention us in his report. So please take note that we are not back in our homes, we miss our community very much and as our community newspaper you need to speak out for us! People seem to forget that the effects of Superstorm Sandy are not over!
