Surfrider Fundraiser Heads For Shore
The Surfrider Foundation’s NYC Chapter “Clean Water” fundraiser will raise money to support year-round water testing in Rockaway Beach, and reusable shopping bag distribution throughout New York City.
The event will be held at Santos Party House on Lafayette Street on Saturday, October 26th, from 7-11 p.m. and will feature an “’80s surf” dance theme. Costumes are optional, but welcomed.
Part of the proceeds will go to water testing. Surfrider Foundation will be the first organization to collect and test ocean water samples year-round and after severe weather to ensure its safety.
According to a release from the foundation “water testing is currently only conducted between Memorial Day and Labor Day in New York, yet beaches are used all year long for recreational activities. The findings will be published online and shared with New York State officials.”
The Surfrider Foundation also states it is committed to helping reduce the impact of single-use plastics on our oceans. The NYC Chapter will begin distributing reusable bags in diverse neighborhoods in New York City as part of its “issue awareness and behavioral change” campaign efforts. Funds raised will help support this initiative.
Party goers will have the chance to win many items with the top prize of the night being two round-trip tickets to Central America provided by Delta Air Lines and a package to stay at a surf camp in Nicaragua provided by Rise Up Surf Tours Nicaragua!
Also Brooklyn based artist Magdalena Love will create a piece on-site around the themes of clean water and NYC. Attendees will have a chance to bid on a unique piece of art from this vibrant artist.
DJ Martial will be mixing and mashing the best of the ‘80s with everything contemporary and SMASH Surf will be projecting the raddest of ‘80s surf flicks.
