Free Mammograms/Exams In Rockaway
Declaring that “early detection of breast cancer saves lives” the American-Italian Cancer Foundation and State Senator Joseph Addabbo will bring the foundation’s no-cost breast cancer screening program to the Rockaways.
Their mobile Care Clinic van will be at the Knights of Columbus at 333 Beach 90th Street from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 7th.
The program is free, however an appointment is necessary. Rockaway/Broad Channel residents and others are asked to call 1-877-628-9090 to make one.
Mammograms will be performed by a certified, licensed mammography technologist. Clinical breast exam and instruction in breast self-exam will also be done by a trained staffer and radiological interpretations performed by Board Certified Radiologists.
Results will be sent to you and/or your doctor within 10 business days. If you would like the results sent to your doctor, please provide MDS with his or her full name and address.
Comparison radiological studies can also be done for women who bring their previous mammogram films. In some cases, it can eliminate the need for additional testing.
All tests are free of charge. Although anyone with Medicare, Medicaid or other health insurance, must bring their card, there is no co-pay or additional charges.
The Foundation recommends women wear a two-piece outfit to their exam. They should also avoid using any oil, powder, deodorant, or perfume in the breast, underarm or chest area.
The initiative is funded by donations from the Avon Foundation Breast Health Outreach Program, National Breast Cancer Foundation, New York City Council, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, The Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the New York State Department of Health.
