LIPA Outages To Impact Community

LIPA outages are coming again, but this time it’s to make improvements.

In a letter, LIPA says that over the past four months, they have been working in the Rockaway Beach, Rockaway Park, Belle Harbor and Neponsit areas to upgrade the electric system. This work includes replacing and reinforcing the electric facilities that feed these areas. These upgrades are being done so that the system meets increased electric needs and improve the overall reliability of the electric service.

However in order to do these upgrades, LIPA customers will have to deal with a temporary outage to bring them over to the new system. The outages will start on Monday, October 14th and will continue for three weeks. Each customer will only have one service disruption which is expected to last between three and four hours. “We will make every effort to keep the outage time as minimal as possible,” LIPA says in a letter.

Affected customers should receive a letter from LIPA which will designate a specific outage time, date, duration, contact number and possible rain date for the specific outage.
