Coaches, Players Play Against Cancer


Players and coaches of St. Rose, St. Camillus-St. Virgilius, Blessed Trinity and St. Stanislaus of Ozone Park are ready to play for cancer research at St. Camillus’ Springmann Hall. Local basketball coaches and players are driving hard for a win against cancer.

Friday and Saturday, November 29th and 30th, will see the Coaches vs. Cancer 7th Grade Basketball Tournament hit the courts.

All games will be played at the St. Camillus gymnasium, Springman Hall, at 99-15 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, Rockaway Park.

On Friday, St. Rose of Lima in Rockaway will play Ozone Park’s St. Stanislaus at 7 p.m. At 8 p.m. St. Camillus-St. Virgilius of Rockaway Park/Broad Channel will play Breezy Point’s Blessed Trinity team.

On Saturday night the teams will square off in a consolation match at 6 p.m. and the Championship Game will be at 7 p.m.

At 8 p.m. special contest will pit local coaches on the boards for a good cause, the fight against cancer.

All proceeds from both nights will go to the Jimmy V. Foundation For Cancer Research.

Admission will be a $5 donation at door for individuals and $10 for families. Children under 10 are free.

DJ’s @ Works will be providing the entertainment, and refreshments will be available.

Any coach interested in playing in the coaches’ game on November 30th at 8 p.m. should contact; Billy Hofmann at 917-562-6250 or billyh@longtrail.com. $30 per player includes a jersey. Spots are limited to 20 players only, so it is ‘first come, first play.’

Afterwards there will be a post-game party at Dalton’s Seaside Grill at 10 p.m.
