Sweet Smelling Idea

Dear Editor:

This was sent to the New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program Committee

In your great work to assist Rockaway in our recovery efforts, I hope you consider a full renovation of the Jamaica Bay Water Treatment Plant on Beach 105th Street, bayside.

The plant was almost overwhelmed by 'Savage Sandy' last year, and needs a complete rebuild. Many DEP treatment plants around NYC have been capped and redeveloped into community parks, etc., etc., and Rockaway's plant likewise needs to be renovated and capped.

Can you believe that within two blocks of this 'volcanic-like' fuming and dys-functioning plant are four NYC schools? Scholars’ Academy (directly across the street), Beach Channel High School, PS 225 and Martin De Pores, the former Stella Maris Academy.

For our sake, but especially for the children's sake, Rockaway's treatment plant needs to be remodeled, to prevent the regularly occurring obnoxious-fume discharges, and to protect against any future potential breaches.

Thank You SO MUCH for your great interest and support for our Rockaways.

PETER STUBBEN
