You Can’t Stop Now
Not everybody reads The Wave. If you’re a regular reader, you know we have been hammering the point about flood insurance premiums being a deadly threat to all of Rockaway. It’s an issue that is not going away on its own. The large turnout in Broad Channel last Saturday at the Stop FEMA Now rally was encouraging. But, honestly, only a fraction of the people who will be affected were there. The lack of public awareness is the only thing stopping a massive movement to get Congress to repeal or amend the Biggert-Waters Act.
Keep doing your part. You might tell your friends and neighbors that they don’t have to read The Wave but they should give their insurance agents a call. Renters might ask management what’s coming. Awareness has to spread. We’re trying to get the word out but like we said, not everybody reads The Wave. Some of this fight is up to you.
