Stick Up At 97th Street Concession

As The Wave was going to press, late news came in that three gun wielding masked men came through the back door at the Beach 97th Street concession and made off with $9000 after closing time on Sunday evening.

The sizeable cash amount was due in part to the good-sized crowd who’d been on hand to see the local favorite band Indaculture.

Clean-up was going on at approximately 11:15 p.m. when the guntoting thieves wearing kitchen gloves and wearing bandanas and hoods came in, threatened workers, and then made off with the cash.

There have been no arrests but, according to witnesses, the police do have leads in the case. Officers at the 100th Precinct have asked that anyone with information to call the precinct squad at 718-318- 4220.

The robbery is a depressing end to what had already been a tough summer for the Beach 97th Street concession. The Parks Department kept the beaches closed at Beach 97th Street because of erosion. Crowds drifted to other concessions and beaches throughout the summer.
